What does my confidence score mean?
Your confidence score is not a grade on your voice. It measures how much HumMatch trusts the pitch data it captured during your last hum, not how well you sing.
Hum length
Each note you hum gives HumMatch a short window of pitch samples to read. Cutting a note off early, or humming very quietly, leaves fewer samples to work with, so the estimate carries less weight.
Pitch steadiness
HumMatch also checks how steady each note held. A wavering pitch, background noise, music playing nearby, or the microphone sitting too far away all make the detected pitch drift, which pulls the score down even if the note itself was right.
How to get a stronger reading
- Find a quiet room and mute anything playing in the background.
- Hold your phone or microphone a few inches from your mouth.
- Hum each note for the full prompt instead of stopping early.
- Hum a clean, sustained tone rather than a short or wavering one.
